Recreation services in aged care

Individuals receiving care continue to enjoy and find fulfillment in recreational activities that they have long enjoyed. A social supporter can help with a wide range of activities, from helping someone travel to the movies or library, playing a board game with them at home, or even taking them to go shopping, thereby helping them to maintain their independence at home, and their quality of life.

Costs

The cost of recreational and social support is partly borne by the government. Social support programs are partially subsidised by the Commonwealth Home Support Program and Homa Care Package however, the full cost of the services may not be covered. This cost will be discussed prior to commencing any activities, as it will depend on the type of activity and care.

Accessing Recreational Services:

Social support services are a government funded portion of the Commonwealth Home Support Program and Home Care Package. Social supporters can be accessed as part of these government subsidised programs and are provided by independent aged care service providers. Accessibility is based on the criterion provided for the Commonwealth Home Support Program and Home Care Package program. Our “Plan Care” tool can help you find a social support and recreational activity program.
